Audition 2012 FINAL InformationJunior Bach Auditions: February 4 -5, 2012Here are final instructions regarding our upcoming auditions. Firstly, we hope all schedule conflicts submitted in your applications have been accommodated. Cancellation may be the only alternative if for some reason you cannot appear at the date/time assigned. If you are playing with an accompanist or in an ensemble, it is your responsibility to notify all members regarding the date and time. Auditions will again be held in the Music Department, Morrison Hall, west of Hertz Concert Hall, at the University of California, Berkeley. Please refer to the diagram map for location of nearby UC parking lots. Checking in at least 30 minutes ahead of the stated hour will assure you a bit of warm-up time in a practice room. Casual dress is fine, but note that judges for the vocal panel will not be behind screens. Bring the Assignment letter and a copy of the music for the judges. Pencil in your assigned Audition Number at the top edge of the cover, but mask your name if it is on the cover. Photocopies are permitted. 3 to 7 performers, usually of similar ages, are auditioned together in groups we call Panels lasting 25 to 50 minutes, total duration depending on the age and number of participants as well as the length of pieces. The approximate duration of your assigned panel will soon be posted. All students in your panel will be led together by a monitor to the audition room, where you will play in turn for one another. The monitor will introduce the piece(s) and assist you as needed. Waiting hallway space will be provided for parents, as most audition rooms are too small to accommodate them. Reminders: Do not take repeats unless ornamented differently. However, Da Capo of movements such as Gavotte I and Bourree I should be part of the performance. Because of time constraints, judges may ask you to stop or proceed to the next movement, but this is not an indication of acceptance or rejection. Except for organists and harpsichordists, all soloists must perform from memory. Accompanists and ensembles, including duo or trio sonatas, as well as principals of duo or triple concerti, may use scores. Ask the room monitor for page turning assistance if needed. Results will be mailed to you by February 14th, with judges’ comments sent to your teacher at the same time. We thank you for your participation and hope that your audition will be a rewarding educational experience. See you on Saturday the 4th or Sunday the 5th! Campus parking lots are marked C Fees vary depending on the location: the nearest lot on Bancroft under the tennis court opposite the University Art Museum is unfortunately one of the most expensive at $3 the first hour, $2 each hour to follow, and often reserved for UC events, whereas the rate at several other UC sites is only $1/hour. Lot machines accept bills but do not give change. The lot adjacent to Boalt Law School is approached from Piedmont Ave across from the stadium. The UC garage under the tennis court on Channing and College (Underhill lot) is open to the public, at $1 per hour the first 2 hours, higher thereafter on Saturdays, $.50/hr on Sundays. Saturday metered street parking for 2 hours may be found further down on Bancroft and nearby streets. Other parking sites include the M L King Student Union garage, City public parking on Durant west of Telegraph. From the downtown Berkeley BART station, allow 20 minutes’ walk to Morrison. The expected duration from registration to the end of your audition panel should be no more than 2 hours. |
